    This is a research and information site for historic trails of the west. It includes history, maps, photos, and GPS data for well-know, as well as obscure historic trails. Most of the trails documented on this site are located in the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and northern California. All research is, by definition, a work in progress and these trails are no exception.

    Although this academic research has been conducted to the highest possible standards, it is entirely possible that errors have been made. I apologize for these errors in advance.

    In some cases, more detailed and accurate information about trails on this website has been accrued by various trail organizations such as the Oregon-California Trail Association (OCTA) and National Historic Trails managed by the National Park Service (NPS). The user is encouraged to consult these sources.
